I don't normally post real intimate aspects of my life, but this time I am. The following is not to gain sympathy or sensationalize. I am only writing to inform others of this evil that exists in our world but show how God still protects us. Maybe my story can help someone else.
Wednesday night, while Chris went to bed at 10:30, Riley was in his room watching a movie and I was in the living room. I heard a strange noise that did not sound like Riley but I figured it was our neighbors outside. Next thing I know, Riley had run into the living room and Chris was behind him yelling, "Get the hell out of my yard!". He says there is a 13 year old boy looking into Riley's window and rushes out the door to grab him. I assumed it was the nasty neighbor's son since he's around that age.
(There are three large windows at the end of the house, two of them are in the master bedroom and one is in Riley's room. There are no blinds on our windows since we just look out onto a wooded area. There are short valences on Riley's windows that don't fall the entire length of the window.)
After what seemed like an eternity, Chris runs back in and tells me to write down a license plate number. It wasn't a boy looking into Riley's window. It was a Mexican man. Chris also witnessed him doing something that required his pants be unzipped. The guy ran out through our nasty neighbor's yard and into a truck that was waiting for him with the motor running, parked in front of her house.
This is an evil act. This is the devil, in all it's multifarious forms, trying to attack my family. But God is still surrounding my family and hearing my daily prayers for protection. If Chris hadn't gone to the bedroom at that time he did, we would have never known the guy was out there. Greater still, the outcome of this could have been much more sinister. I don't need to tell you what I was trying not to imagine when finally getting to bed that night.
While we were waiting for the police to come to our house, I told Chris that our nasty neighbor has had Mexican men come to her house in the past. They were not there to do handyman work, for sure. I wondered if maybe she knew the perps since they were parked in front of her house. It was really just a wild hunch. Taking a walk outside, Chris saw flashing blue lights at the corner of our street, on the main road to get in and out of the neighborhood. Nasty neighbor's father was outside their front door on the phone telling someone they "weren't going to bring those losers into his house". Chris shrugged it off until he came up to the scene, recognized the guy outside the window, and saw HER sitting with them.
When he finally got back to the house and told me I was right about what I had questioned, something inside me surged. I flew off that couch fast, Chris had to hold me back from running out the door to rip her throat out. You see it happen in the movies and I did it for real. I know now how parents can easily and without remorse shoot to kill their children's murderers. Her story was that they were meeting up that night to do whatever, so the cops didn't have any evidence to charge her. I can say from the bottom of my heart that I truly believe she did not point out my son for her friend's pleasure. But I'm convinced she mentioned him in passing. Amazed that they were caught in our neighborhood? The police just happened to be cruising the area and quickly stopped them. More proof of God's care.
The guy confessed to what he had done and was charged with Indecent Exposure. We have no trespassing warrants against the both of them since the driver threatened Chris not to talk. ICE has been contacted. The state called Chris Thursday after the bond hearing and told him it had been set at $30,000. They will also be taking over the case because in the state attorney's words, "they take sex offender cases very seriously in South Carolina". I am very relieved. I think we have done all that could be done and now it is back in God's hands, directing the state attorneys.
Riley doesn't know what happened and I am eternally grateful. The perps were caught and we will prosecute. This case is not being swept under the rug. I am choosing to focus on all that was guided by God to keep a bigger tragedy from happening. I will continue to pray that evil is punished with no repercussions to the innocent. I will also try to remember that all involved are still God's children although I'm sure I will fail at that.
I pray that my readers never have to feel the anguish of knowing how someone viewed your innocent child or the chaos of the unknown in something so severe as this case. There is one thing I do know, that God will protect your family in times of crisis just like he protected mine!
