Labor Day Weekend

  • Our long weekend was blissful.  On Friday, I had Cinnamon Rolls (plural) for breakfast, a bagel and cheese (yes, just cheese) for lunch and 2 slices of Cheeseburger Pie for dinner (don’t even ask why I had the 2nd slice. I totally wasn’t even hungry for it.) Blah!  I kind of feel disgusted at what I’ve been putting in my body this pregnancy.  At this point though, I’m thankful my family is eating food that’s homemade.

Here is the recipe if you want to indulge!

The number on my scale sure is higher this time around… and I’m only at my 14th week of pregnancy.  I feel like living in moo moo’s like my grandma did 50 years ago.  You know, those over-sized pieces of fabric that sit on your shoulders and just fall straight down to the ground?  It sounds so comforting, doesn’t it?  I opened my maternity clothes bin and couldn’t believe all the tight maternity t-shirts I wore when prego with the boys.  I have no desire to wear them now and nooooo desire to purchase a new wardrobe (imagine that!).  Just saying, if you see me in this until snow fall, don’t make fun.  Its the only moo moo I own and the only thing I want to wear.

I wore my ‘moo-moo’ to the park on Friday and Roman wore his favorite/famous ‘lawn mower’ outfit.  It kind of makes me sick how many clothes he has and yet he fights me about these clothes.  I could take Rocco to the park in a tuxedo and he wouldn’t fight me, but Roman?  Oh Roman.  Anyway, the boys found a praying mantis at the park.  I didn’t go to look at it but Aunt Hilary captured the memory. *shivers*

Her and I go way back with a praying mantis… (and each other).  We had one as a house visitor in college.  We couldn’t get it out of our apartment and couldn’t kill it, so we did what any 2 girls would think of doing at midnight on Tuesday: Call the cops, make a big pot of mac & cheese and sit and wait in our pj’s for someone to come while staring at the praying mantis that we trapped under a wired garbage can.  Eventually, someone came and he caught that praying mantis just like we knew he would!  Every time I see a praying mantis, I always remember our time in that apartment.  Now, here we are, years later, still best of friends and the only difference is that we’re both married and we both have 2 boys.  It really can’t be a coincidence.  And when we get together, us and the 4 boys… its quite a sight to see… such a fun time… and crazy loud.  I love raising my boys along side her!

Just got Side-Tracked there…sorry.  That brings me to Saturday.  The boys cleared a big area in the woods with a Bobcat.  They want to make an ice-rink for the winter.  Seriously.  When they came in from the woods, my home was filled with the mud, dirt, dust and dirty clothes!  I need a mud-room; or 4 (1 at every entrance).

On Saturday Evening, we had dinner at our place with friends!  It was a great night with our babies and toddlers and the kids definitely stayed up way past their bedtime!  I actually got Brian to snap a prego pic of me before they came but you can’t really tell I’m pregnant in the pic.  I promise you, I have a larger bump this time than the other 2 times and I definitely don’t fit in my clothes.  Its the black dress- gotta wear black!  Hello little peanut!  You are now the size of an Orange… or so they say!

On Sunday, we made our way to the South Park Rib Festival where the boys took out all of their energy in the 10 bounce houses that were there!  They had such a fun time!  The music, the excitement, the petting zoo, all of the bounce houses and games… and of course, the FOOD! Well, honestly- Brian and I weren’t impressed with the place we got our food from.  I’m sure other food stands were better but it was what it was.

The boys were a hot mess by the time we left but with a couple of iced cold lemonades, we were good to go!

Labor Day was relaxing.  It was so nice to have Brian home an extra day!  He made us a delicious breakfast and we spent the day at home!  Rocco and I practiced whistling.  He’s all about it.  He learned and we practice.  We get so excited when one little whistle comes out!  No really, we squeal and scream… its fun!  Roman?  He just melts me.  Such a little gem and oh so sweet.  He tries so hard to be just like his brother and when it comes to whistling for him?  Its all spit, baby.  He’ll get it one day.  That’s all folks!  Our long Labor Day weekend!  It was just what the Doctor ordered: time at home, a few good memories, a long drive and some good conversation!

Hope you had a wonderful Labor Day weekend with your friends and family!
